INFORMATION FOR VICTIMS / PARTNERS
Letter from the Founder ✧ County Resources
A Word from Matt / Founder, A Better Man Project

So, your partner has been sent to A Better Man Project. You must be wondering if it will do any good. I have been facilitating batterers programs for almost 30 years. Thousands and thousands of men have completed my program. And yes, it can be life changing.

Men have to be open and willing to change, and to have a true desire to do what it takes. Most men enter my program and are full of denial. YOU are the problem, not them. But for many men, that is soon replaced by the desire to look at themselves and endeavor to change. I can promise that I will give them the knowledge and the tools to become healthy, loving partners. Whether they choose to use the tools is up to them.

I have some strongly held beliefs about men; that most men do not want to be batterers. And most men do not realize at all that some of their actions are even abusive. Inspiring change is one of the strengths of A Better Man Project. I am personally invested in helping men become strong, resolute, dependable, providing structure for the relationship and creating safety for you…physically, financially and emotionally.

I promise you, I will do my best.
As your partner works his way through this program, you are welcome to call me personally and ask questions. If you choose to contact me, anything you tell me will be held in the strictest confidence. He will never know we have spoken unless you wish for me to confront him for his abusive behavior (or praise him for making changes!)

Trust that we will never collude with him, allow him to blame you, minimize or deny his abuse, or even allow him to focus on you at all. This is HIS problem, not yours. Nothing you have done deserves his abuse. Your safety is our primary concern.
